From: Ray Bannon Subject: AS3 IRC FAQ Date: 05. kolovoz 2000 15:29 AS3 Newsgroup's Internet Relay Chat (IRC) FAQ WHAT IS AS3 IRC? IRC is a method of allowing people to communicate with others in real-time conversations (via their keyboards). The as3 channels provide yet another way to exchange information, and to both give and receive support in the effort to stop smoking and to stay quit. WHEN AND WHERE DO AS3 PARTICIPANTS CHAT? #as3irc (alt.support.stop-smoking.irc) We currently gather on Newnet, on channel #as3irc. Connect to one of the following: irc.dragondata.com irc.eskimo.com irc.newnet.net (a server will be assigned) AOL users need to connect using aol.newnet.net port = 7000 You can also connect through a link on the CogQuit web site at http://mindmills.net/cognitivequitting There is someone in the channel Tuesday and Friday evenings and often on weekends...try at any time though as people jump in and out from time to time. #nosmokers on Starlink.Org Stop by anytime for quit smoking support chat. If no one is there stick around or try back a bit later. There are folks in and out all day and evening. Friendly , easy going support chat. Newbies, wannna be's and old fogies. When connecting try: WichitaFalls.TX.US.StarLink.Org Denver.CO.US.StarLink.Org Durham.NC.US.StarLink.Org #SilkQuit on irc.silkquit.org An open environment with no host or single moderator. This channel is intended to encourage self support and friendship by providing a warm meeting place. Somewhere to get away from the harsh moments of life. The free format of this channel allows for focus and fun at the times they are needed. WHAT IS DISCUSSED? Obviously the main topic is helping each other in our no-smoke journies so our discussions usually revolve around just that. However, there is the usual chit-chat much like the talk in the news group. On #as3irc, if the group is large and the conversation strays too far off-topic and becomes disconcerting to those needing more immediate help there is often a 'sister channel', #as3irc2, available for ONLY serious quit talk. If that channel isn't open, simply ask. HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE? You will need software, often referred to as an IRC client. There is a lot of software available for IRC, most either freeware or shareware. For Windows: mIRC http://www.mirc.com/ Pirch http://www.pirch.com/ For Macintosh: Ircle http://www.ircle.houseit.com/ Most of these clients can also be found at: http://www.tucows.com For WebTV The best way to get your WebTV-specific IRC questions answered is to email: wecare@webtv.net. The official WebTV IRC FAQ can be found at: http://wecare.webtv.net/features/community/irc/ Once you have downloaded and installed your chosen irc client, simply connect to Newnet and type /join #as3irc WHO CAN I CONTACT FOR HELP?
